This route is focused on the South Boston section of the HarborWalk, which in our view is the most scenic part of Boston’s waterfront for running. It’s up to 6 miles one-way, including the Pleasure Bay loop, to UMASS Boston.
Start at Pleasure Bay/Castle Island, which is located ~1.5 miles from the Seaport District. The loop around Pleasure Bay is 2.1 miles, with great views and the famous Sully’s seafood shack for a good post-run reward (in season). Continue along William Day Blvd. for 1.8 miles to the Carson Beach bathhouse. The next 1 mile along the boardwalk from Carson Beach to the JFK Presidential Library is gorgeous, with great views of the water and Boston skyline. From the JFK Library, it’s another ~1 mile around Columbia Point and along the water’s edge at the UMASS Boston campus to Rt. 3A.
Add-Ons: Other sections of the Boston waterfront, toward downtown. There are additional pedestrian paths at the ever-changing UMASS Boston campus. Also some nice paths around the fields of Joe Moakley Park, adjacent to Carson Beach. For some hills and a nice neighborhood with older homes, run in the Savin Hill neighborhood, just across 3A from the end of the path at UMASS,
